From the recording It USed to Rain

This is a love song. It's about the long game, dedication, the rewards of growing old together, and the inevitable joy sorrow at the end of that life.
This is another song Brian originally wrote for the Donahues, but that earlier Donahues version sounded like a Keith Richards guitar riff and other than the first two verses, ended up going someplace else lyrically. This version ends up being mostly a complete re-write and changes the meaning of the song from whatever that early version might have been about.

Lyrics

Burn Like the Sun
You had eyes
They burned like the sun
You had eyes
They burned like the sun
You had eyes
Burned like the sun
Ain't that the way, it was so bright out that day

You had eyes
Deeper than space
That could leave lines
carved in my face
but time stands still
at the speed of light and we were
moving so fast that night, that I thought

We could grow old together
Entwine our lives with a tether
and everything would work out just fine
If we only gave it enough time

'Cause You had eyes
They burned like the sun
You had eyes
They burned like the sun
You had eyes
Burned like the sun
Ain't that the way, Ain't that the way

Now your eyes
Don't burn quite as bright
Maybe all these years
Dimmed some of that light
But you still got enough
To ward off the night and I'm still bathing in that light

'Cause you got eyes
Deeper than space
That left these lines
Carved in my face
and Time moves faster now that
We're moving so slow
I hope we still got a ways to go

We have gown old together
Entwined our lives with a tether
and Everything worked out just fine I only
I wish we had more time

'Cause You got eyes
They burned like the sun
You got eyes
They burned like the sun
You got eyes
Burned like the sun
Ain't that the way, Ain't that the way
What can I say?
Don't go Away
What can I say?
Give me, just a few more days
