Marangatang

Marangatang was a Seattle indie Rock band performing from 2001 through 2005. Formed initially in 2000 by Colleen King (now Dumont) on guitar and Brian Trinen on bass, they played a few early shows under the moniker "Static Cling" working with a few different drummers.   They recorded their first album in 2001 after adding Grant Eoff on drums, and took in the name Marangatang at that time. That first recording of 11 songs was not released at the time, but was remastered in late 2025 and finally released by Lost Ballard records in 2026. IN 2004 the band released an eponymously titled album, but stopped performing together in 2005.  You can now get both of their recordings here at Lost Ballard Records.

This album "Static Cling" was recorded in 2001 in Love Studio in Fremont Seattle Washington, before the band adopted the name Marangatang, when Colleen and Brian were still calling themselves "Static Cling". While the songs on this album were performed numerous times in Marangatang shows in Seattle and beyond, the album was never released until now. Mastering was done by Brian Trinen in Lost Ballard Records' North Beach Studio in 2025. One song on the Album "Shiver" appears as a bonus track on Marangatang's 2004 CD release. That was this same recording, but originally mastered at RFI Mastering Studio in Seattle. The song was remastered in 2025 from the original mix for this album release.

This album represents the second attempt to record these songs at Love studios. The songs were previously recorded with a different drummer named Chuck, just before Chuck moved away. All those recordings were lost in a hard drive crash before the recordings were backed up. Colleen and Brian then started working with Grant on drums and went back into Love Studio to record the album all over again. We can imagine how great that first recording might have been, but we will never know, and this version with Grant turned out pretty damn good.
